New Kitchen Essentials List!

Keeping your kitchen fresh and up to date is not always easy. Especially those of you who are getting a new kitchen fitted through us or another tradesman in the area. How do you know what you actually NEED for your kitchen? Well, today, we want to give you a mini overview of everything you need to buy for your kitchen. You can get away without some of these and perhaps you need a few things not included on the list - but we guarantee you’ll have forgotten something on the list!

We’re also making this list to help declutter your mind. We’re constantly bombarded with kitchen and home advertisements. Suddenly you think you need all of these goofy utensils and extras. The worst part? Many of the products are cheap and arrive in Chinese packaging. Even influencers are selling products on their Instagram accounts without doing proper checks on the products they are promoting. This is why it pays to let us be your bathroom fitter in Nottingham. So this list is going to be a no frills, no motive list on some real essentials you’ll be needing in your new kitchen!

Prep word products

Prep work always happens in a kitchen. Even if you are the most basic of chef, you’re always going to need to be chopping things up and needing general tools to get your food ready to be cooked. Here’s what you need:

Chopping board. A surface to cut meat, vegetables and more is essential. You can go for any kind of look or style here.

Chefs knife. Everyone needs this. Virtually every time you cook you will need a sturdy knife. Other knifes that are worth getting are a small knife, a bread knife and a large knife for those sturdy foods.

A can opener. This one does what it says on the tin. The other bonus you normally get from a can opener? A bottle opener! Really another kitchen essential. You never know when someone is going to crack out a good bottle.

Vegetable peelers. Emphasis on peelers. Recruit the family to help too! But seriously, peelers save a massive amount of time compared to trying to use a knife etc.

Masher. Great for mashing potatoes, swedes and more!

Whisks are great. Like peelers, they save time stirring and are far more efficient for whipping something together.

Colanders are great for draining meats and vegetables. You don’t want to mess around with other ineffective tools and risk dropping your cooking on the floor or anything like that!

A cheese grater is also really useful even if you don’t think you’ll use it much.

Cooking equipment

Your first essential is a stainless steel pan. Fry, sear and sauté just about anything in your stainless steel skillet. It’s used a lot, more than you would think. Similarly, a cast iron pan is a must purchase. It is more resistant, sturdy and will be great for cooking a steak, while the skillet is good for making something light, like eggs.

Crockpot. Perfect for slow cooked meals while you’re out the house. Basically just a large pot where you can chuck everything in to cook together!

Oven trays. Get different shapes and sizes depending on what you want to do. Small is good. Large is good. Muffin shaped trays are good. Whatever you need!

Tools and utensils

A spatula. Great for stirring, moving, placing and more in the kitchen! A great all rounder. Tongs are a good idea for lifting and moving things. Ladles are good, especially with a hole in the bottom for your poached eggs. Scissors are always useful for cutting and opening packets. Nice cutlery for you, your family and your guests never goes a miss.

Appliances

Let’s start with a good blender. Hone your inner health spirit with fruit and vegetable smoothies. A large toaster holding at least four slices of bread is good for larger families and households likely to have guests. A nice kettle is good because you will be using it a lot. Same for a coffee machine or maker. A nice tea leaf press and even a tea pot. Toasty makers are great too.

Other kitchen essentials

Make sure you get good sponges. Nothing worse than a dirty kitchen! The right cleaning equipment helps. Some antibacterial spray and spare cloths helps. Those brushes you can buy to do the washing up are good too. A drying rack helps with general cleanliness. Aluminium foil is one of those things you can get multiple uses out of it from. Retains temperature, blocks sticking, you can pack a lunch in it etc. You might want an ice cube tray, good for drinks and cooking. A large bin helps. Small bins means putting out the rubbish every day. Kitchen roll helps. Herbs and dry spices to liven up your food is good. Plastic storage containers always help.

That’s about it for now! Hopefully we’ve given you at least a few ideas for your new kitchen. Remember that if you need a kitchen fitter in Nottingham, we are more than happy to help you out. We have tons of experience working with every room in the house!
